Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)

Lake Country Airways offers a personalized Commercial Pilot Licence training program with first-rate flight instructors and quality aircraft on an uncontrolled air field (no taxi wait times) where students are given priority.

The Lake Country Airway's CPL program elevates you to a whole new position in aviation. Through the 80-hour ground school in commercial flight operations and the use of our flight simulator, you will receive in-depth instruction in flight theory and operations as well as the commercial aspects of flying. You will be provided with the advanced one-on-one guidance needed to hone your flight maneuvering skills and navigate with greater precision and accuracy. A CPL from Lake Country Airways equips you with the knowledge and skills needed for real-life, Adventure Flying. Lake Country Airways offers adventure-oriented flight instruction from pavement, grass, and water at one convenient location. We specialize in float flying. All CPL flight training can be completed on wheels or floats.

CPL Requirements
  • Must hold a valid Private Pilot Licence (PPL)-Aeroplane
  • 18 years of age to obtain a CPL, but training and solo flights can begin at age 17
  • Category I Medical Certification is required and can be obtained through a Civil Aviation Medical Examiner
  • Completed a minimum of 200 hours total flight time-100 of which completed as pilot-in-command (PIC) including 20 hours as PIC Cross-Country
  • 35 hours DUAL minimum after obtaining PPL
  • 5 hours DUAL Night (2 hours DUAL Night Cross-Country)
  • 5 hours DUAL Cross-Country
  • 20 hours Instrument Time
  • 30 hours SOLO minimum since PPL
  • 5 hours Pilot-in-Command Night
  • 25 hours (including a 300nm Cross-Country with 3 stops)
  • 80 hours of Ground School-usually held twice weekly in classroom facilities at Lake Country Airways. Extensive coverage of topics include Canadian Aviation Regulations; Aerodynamics and Theory of Flight: Meteorology; Airframes, Engines and Systems; Flight Instruments; Radio and Electronic Theory; Navigation; Flight Operations; Licensing Requirements; and Human Factors, including pilot decision-making, etc.
  • Successful completion (60% or higher) of the Transport Canada Commercial Pilot Written Exam-administered at any of the Transport Canada Examination Centres; can be written after completing 50% of total flight requirements.
  • Successful completion of Commercial Pilot Flight Test through Transport Canada administered on site by approved examiner; can be completed within 150 hours total flight time

Notes
You do not have to complete the ground school before beginning flight training. Most students exceed Transport Canada minimum times. The actual cost of each student will vary with individual progress. Transport Canada fees and Medical fees are extra. Pay-as-you-go flying costs available.
